Professor Talarico joined the faculty of the Department of Political Science in 1977 and was promoted to the rank of professor in 1988. She holds the Albert Berry Saye Chair of American Government and Constitutional Law and is Director of Criminal Justice Studies Program.
Professor Talarico has published a variety of books, articles, book chapters, and reviews on a variety of legal and judicial topics. Recent Publications include articles in the Georgia Law Review and the Yale Law and Policy Review/Yale Journal of Regulation. Current research consists of studies of tort litigation and discovery abuse, work conducted with faculty at the UGA School of Law. Earlier, Professor Talarico co-authored the prize-winning, The Social Contexts of Criminal Sentencing with Martha A. Myers and Explorations in Crime and Justice with the late James L. Massey. A recipient of grants from the Georgia Civil Justice Foundation, the National Institute of Justice and the National Science Foundation, Professor Talarico also served (1999-2004) as editor-in-chief of Justice System Journal, which is published by the National Center for State Courts.
Professor Talarico has twice received the University of Georgia’s
Josiah Meigs Award for Excellence in Teaching, 1986 and 1990. She was Franklin College of Arts and Sciences
General Sandy Beaver Professor of Political Science from1991-1994 and received
a Special Sandy Beaver Teaching Award in 1986. A former University Senior Teaching Fellow
(1990-1991), Professor Talarico is a charter member of the
Professor Talarico has made numerous contributions to university governance at the department, college and university levels. She was invited to deliver the 1993 President’s Lecture and the 1994 Honors Day Address. Professor Talarico has also served on a number of professional association committees, held office in national professional associations, served on several editorial and research review boards, and been involved in varied public service boards and projects.
Professor Talarico is married to Rodger Carroll and mother of Robert David Carroll, a 21 year old senior at Clemson University.
